Prayers at Sunrise

Before breakfast, before lessons, before chores—there’s prayer. At Nani’s Kids, every morning begins with voices lifted to heaven.

Prayer isn’t a ritual. It’s how healing starts. Because these kids aren’t just learning how to talk to God—they’re learning to listen for His voice.

Why Prayer Starts the Day

Many of our children arrive with no concept of prayer. Some come from spiritual neglect. Others from abuse, fear, or silence. For them, talking to God feels foreign at first.

But something changes when they hear staff whisper their names in intercession. When they see other kids pray boldly. When they realize they’re not alone anymore.

Prayer becomes the first invitation to belonging.

It’s not just a morning routine—it’s a moment when heaven meets earth, right on the concrete floor of a children’s dorm.

What Morning Prayer Looks Like

Prayer isn’t one-size-fits-all.
It’s woven into the fabric of each house, guided by the needs of the children and the rhythms of the staff. Common morning practices include:

  • Reading a Psalm together aloud

  • Prayer circles led by both staff and children

  • Gratitude sharing, where each child names one thing they’re thankful for

  • Personal reflection time—sometimes journaling, sometimes just silence

  • Worship music playing gently in the background to set the tone

Whether through soft words or bold declarations, the morning begins with God. And in time, even the most hesitant children begin to pray out loud—for each other, for healing, and for home.

Prayer as Foundation

We believe that prayer precedes breakthrough.

  • Before we counsel, we pray.

  • Before we discipline, we pray.

  • Before we serve a meal or start a lesson, we stop to remember who we serve.

This rhythm doesn’t just shape the children—it shapes us. Staff members find renewal in these early moments, too. For many, it’s the most honest part of the day.

In an environment where trauma used to dominate their mornings, our children now wake up to peace.

One whispered prayer at a time, healing begins.
